Queenstown – Gondola, Luge and Glenorchy

Category : Travel

One day we decided to go to Queenstown, a city on the west side of the South Island. For that we would need to drive for three and half hours. It was a long ride, but it was worth it. We came and saw that our house was overlooking a beautiful lake and a lot of mountains! Then we went to our beds and fell asleep.

The next morning we went on the skyline gondola. It is a cable car line that goes up to Bob’s Peak. When we came to the top, we went in line to go on the luge, a light toboggan driven in a sitting position. First the people in charge taught me how to control it, then I went on the beginners track. It goes slow and that’s why it’s also called the scenic track. You can look at everything around you. When I finished, I went in line for the fast track. It goes faster than the scenic track, and it is way more fun. When I already got a luge, I saw that there was a slope in the start. I thought “so that’s why it is called the fast track!”. When I went down the slope, I went so fast I almost fell off! On the way I found out that there were more than 1 slope. Actually, there were 3 of them! I was so happy. After that we went back down by gondola. It was fun.

The same day we decided to go to Glenorchy, the place where the movies Lord of the RingsThe Hobbits and Chronicles of Narnia were filmed. The ride there was so beautiful. The mountains, called the Remarkables, are giant and breathtaking. They are snowcapped. It was really cold in Glenorchy, so we didn’t stay for long… It was a wonderful day.
