Catlins Nature Reserve

Category : Travel

On October 30, we went to Catlins Nature Reserve. First we decided to stop in Kaka Point to eat lunch and ice cream. When we finished eating we decided to go to Nugget Point, a place not far from Kaka Point. We went there to look for seals. There was a lighthouse on the top of the hill and we walked 900 meters to get there. It was a long walk, but it was worth it. You could see everything from there, even a seal! Then we walked back to the car and drove to Roaring Bay. It is a bay with yellow-eyed penguins, the rarest penguins in the world. When we came, we saw 2 of them! One of them was standing near the water, and one was waddling away from the water (too bad, after a few seconds it hid behind some rocks, and probably the other one dove into the water). We also played on the beach and found a giant sea star with seven arms (or legs). We released it into the ocean.

It was a wonderful day.
