Moeraki Boulders

Category : Travel

Once we decided to go to the Moeraki toka (it means Moeraki Boulders in Maori). The Moeraki Boulders are unusually spherical  boulders. According to wikipedia, the boulders consist of mud, fine silt and clay, cemented by calcite. How they are formed, it is not yet very clear to scientists. One of the theories is that the core gets formed and the rest gets attached on it, layer by layer. Then, due to some geological processes they come to the surface. They are very cool, almost spooky. How can such perfect spheres be formed? That’s the question (I feel like Shakespeare: “to be or not to be”, that was his question).

Then my family and mom’s colleagues Jeff and his wife Lisa went to the best fish restaurant in all Oceania (at least that’s what I think). It is called “Fleur’s Place”. If you ever go to Moeraki, you must go there (my opinion). It gets the freshest fish every morning and it gets cooked the same day. There is even a heli pad for people from other islands or far parts of New Zealand (rich ones, mind that) who want to come and have Fleur’s food. We all ate blue cod, which is the most famous and very delicious fish in New Zealand. You cannot find it anywhere else.

It was such a wonderful day.
