Invercargill and Bluff

Category : Travel

Once we went to Invercargill, the southernmost city in New Zealand. The city is best known for their successful colony of tuataras, a prehistoric lizard that survived only in New Zealand. It even has 3 eyes (I am completely not kidding)! When we came to the tuatarium we saw a 120-year-old tuatara named Henry. When he was younger he got sick and became very aggressive. If they put other tuataras next to him they would get into a fight. After a few years the vet cured him and Henry had a wife. After another few years they had babies. We even saw them! He was 111 when his baby tuataras hatched, and his wife was 86.

Then we went to the Queens Park (my opinion is that it should be called a botanical garden because there are heaps of plants). We decided to go to the playground. And we did! It was so big and beautiful, just like in Sydney or NYC. There even was a pool (but of course I did not swim in it because it was 54 Fahrenheit!) After the playground we decided to go to Bluff. Bluff is the southernmost port in New Zealand. You can go to Antarctica from there (we thought about it but decided not to )). When we came there we saw a lot of ships and no people (like it was a ghost town). Then we decided to go to Stirling Point, the southernmost point of Bluff. At Stirling Point there was an international signpost. It showed the distance to countries and cities like New York and the South Pole.

It was great. And we so enjoyed this sunny day.
