Cáceres the Castle (Town)

Category : Travel

Well, we were planning to go to Lisbon, Portugal, from the very start of our journey this year. But, to break up a 6-hour long trip from Madrid, we decided to stop in Cáceres for the night. Cáceres is a medieval town that is close to the border of Spain. Oh, and we discovered that the old town was built entirely from rock. We even lived in a house that was also made out of rock! The earliest remains of Cáceres date back to 29 BC, back when Cáceres was called Caesarina! Here is how Cáceres looks like:

The next day we went to the Museo de Cáceres (Museum of Cáceres). It has a giant carriage that wheels are two times bigger than Evan (I might be overexaggerating), and a lot of tombstones. Some of them have ancient writing on them! There were also these big scary costumes that were probably used to scare away evil spirits. Then we went into achamber that, a long time ago, was used as some kind of (do not blame me if I’m wrong) water basin. And it smelled as if the place was hundreds of years old! It was, though.

After that we decided to climb the Dos Torres (Two Towers). The ladders were very narrow, long, and steep. But the ladders were worth it. The view was pretty good. You could see all of the old town and most of the new town too! We got down and went to get some ice cream. The person who was giving us the ice cream turned out to be Moldovan and knew how to speak Russian. The Dulce de Leche ice cream flavor is super good (I got Piña).

Cáceres was a nice place. Next stop: Lisbon, Portugal!
