Lisbon, Portugal (25th (by my count) country, baby!)

Category : Travel

Well, the ride from Cáceres was (pretty) long (it seriously was pretty) and when we came to Lisbon, it was dark and we needed to eat dinner already. We found a restaurant and Evan and I had these macaroni in soup and with shrimp and meat. It was good.

The next day we went to the Church of Santa Engrácia. It is also known as the Panteão Nacional. Evan, Mom and I came and saw that we could get on the top of the dome of the cathedral. So we went up. And up. And up. And up. And up. ……

You probably get how many stairs we needed to climb. But the stairs were worth it. The view was great up there. We even saw a cruise ship standing near the water! It was great. We came down and decided to go and take a ride on a tram. We got to drive the tram. We also had two accidents. 1. The tram got stuck because there was a car standing on the tram lines. The driver banged a metal stick against the steps until the driver of the car came and drove away. 2. We scraped a car a little. The driver (again) banged a metal stick against the steps until the driver of the car came to move the car closer to the sidewalk. We got off at some place (I don’t know where) and went on another tram to go to the Jeronimos Monastery, also known as the Hieronymites Monastery. In the monastery lies Vasco da Gama, a very famous explorer who made the first voyage to India and Macau. We saw his grave.

After the monastery we went to this very famous pastry place called Pasteis de Belem. It is famous because of the secret recipe that was created in 1756 of a special egg tart. Once there were only 2 people in the world that knew the recipe! If you ever come to Lisbon, go there and ask for the egg tart. It is SO REALLY VERY SUPER DUPER good.

The day after that we went to the Castelo de São Jorge, a castle that is on the top of a hill. It has a lot of cannons surrounding it, some of that are tiny. Soon after, we found out that peacocks lived there. Then we went inside the castle. There are a lot of towers in it and you could go on one. So we went on the towers and we could see everything from there! It was nice. We took a lot of photos.

Lisbon was great. We will see about Porto!
