My Thoughts on Homeschooling

Category : Tip

My mom is on sabbatical, so we decided to have a trip around the world. Because we were traveling so much, I couldn’t go to school, so my mom is homeschooling me. This report is about my thoughts on homeschooling.

My mom is a professor of educational psychology and she teaches me. Our days are different from days in a regular school but also different from day to day. We can decide what we want to do every day. We do a lot of math. On the journey I finished 4th grade and am almost finishing 5th  grade math (I am in 3rd grade). We write book reports in Russian and in English and sometimes we do geography (especially on the journey). When we were in a country we went to museums and wrote about it. For example, we very much liked the National Museum of Singapore, and learned a lot about history of the country. Even Evan can tell a good story about the Japanese invading Singapore! When in Australia, I wrote a report on geography of the country and marsupials. These are just a few examples. I also practice violin in the daytime and we dance A LOT! My Mom, Evan and I take dance breaks and we are also on the leaderboard of Just Dance (it’s an Xbox game).

We are temporarily home from the travels, and sometimes we go places, like the aquarium, Princeton, and New York City. We write about what we did over there. Last time we went to the aquarium, Evan made a collage and I wrote a report about sharks.

We also cook and bake. I know how to make kale chips, how to marinate a chicken, and we bake lots of things, like cookies and muffins.

I also read a LOT. Every hour, you can find me reading some book that I just found on the shelf. Mom always teases me by saying that I have books everywhere.

My friend Oscar comes over to our house most days. We play with him for a few hours and have fun. I also go to Tae Kwon Do regularly, and when we go on our next trip, I’ll be playing soccer (but I’ll tell you about it later)…

Do I miss anything from regular school? Nah, not really.

Homeschooling is fun and I hope that I will get homeschooled for a long time.
