MacRitchie Park

Category : Travel

There are several Nature Reserves in Singapore, and MacRitchie is the oldest. It is also probably the most famous, because Macaques live there. All our Singaporean friends were telling us about their adventure with the monkeys and saying that we should go, and we thought it was very cool. We went as soon as we had a free day.

When we came, there was a light rain, but we were under trees most of the time, so we came into the reserve and started walking up a hill. We suddenly realized that the hill was in the wrong direction, so we turned around and took the forest trail. In the start, we thought we saw a macaque but it was hidden in the leaves of the trees, so we kept going. We asked a few people along the way if they saw any monkeys, but the answer was the same: “No, we didn’t see any, but we thought we saw something once.” Still thinking that we would be luckier, we went on.

5 minutes later, we were walking back to the start. No monkeys at all. When we came to the start, we saw… A GROUP OF 5 MONKEYS! They were so cute and active! The first monkey we saw was standing on its hind legs. It also had this mane of white hair around its face. He was right in front of me! I was REALLY close! Actually, you aren’t supposed to come close to a monkey, but that’s what I did a lot in hopes of making a good pic. It turned out great!

After that, about 10 more came. Maybe I’m exaggerating, but there were a LOT! They were hanging on trees, sitting on trees, sitting on signs, and just walking around on the ground. There were so many people looking at them! Some people were even trying to touch them, but that’s pretty much like punching a person, so the monkeys ran to another spot. Also, when monkeys shake branches, that means they are ready for a fight. That’s what happened when a lady tried to touch a monkey!

Mom, Dad, and Evan were watching one group of monkeys, but I was watching a little monkey try to climb down a bush. Halfway down, the monkey fell, but it fell on four feet and walked away. It was funny! I came back to the rest of the monkey family. A monkey was sitting on a map of the park. Isn’t it funny that a monkey was sitting on a map of MacRitchie? It’s funny because monkeys are the reason MacRitchie is so famous.

I wonder if the MONKEYS fish here?

We finally went away, because we were tired, happy, and phones filled with photographs. I hope we come here again – many many many many many times!
